Honk If You Love Somebody

This seemed like a perfect Monday post, especially the first Monday of the New Year. Moreover, I’ve decided to start a new category for the New Year, named simply “Good!” and placed in the Living Well section.

Why? Because I think it’s so incredibly easy to feel somewhat overwhelmed by all the bad news that surrounds us – on the television or internet, at work or in the community, maybe even at home. In fact, sometimes it feels like is about all the gets featured in the media and we get so used to it that we don’t even notice how it’s sucking our energy and diminishing our vision. And so from time to time, when I come across a video or news item about someone who is doing something good, I want to feature it here.

And this seemed like a great place to start. Because what I particularly love about this 5-minute video is Massoud’s sense of the power of a simple gesture. Make a few signs, take time to show them to folks flying by as they start their day, and see what good might come of it. No big deal, but with a surprisingly big payoff.

Which puts me to thinking: what little thing could I do today to make someone else’s day just a bit better? And what little thing could you do? Not flashy, not expensive, not hugely time consuming – just some small thing that you or I could do to make a difference. And what would our world be like if we all starting doing these simple things?

Have a great Monday! (And, if you think of it, do some good!)
