Ah, brainstorming. We’ve all relied on it at one time or another when we need to come up with fresh ideas. But does it work? If you’re anything like me, you’re probably pretty sure it does. Haven’t we all been taught, after all, that brainstorming is one of the most effective...

If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Sometimes we mean more than we say. That’s what’s going on...
Cross Dressing for the Gospel

Okay, face it – you clicked on this post because of its title…or maybe the picture. Either way, indulge me while I set it up. Radio Lab is one of my favorite radio programs that I almost never listen to. Not, I swear, because I don’t love it – it’s just that I rarely find the time to sit and listen – to anything! – for an hour, so even when I download episode after episode most of them sit in my iTunes queue waiting for my next road trip. But this Saturday I happened to be running some errands. A lot of errands. And since most of them involved lots of driving and only minimal in-and-out of the car, I got to listen to most of an...

And this is God’s doing. For he has graciously granted you the privilege not only of believing in Christ, but of suffering for him as well— since you are having the same struggle that you saw I had and now hear that I still have. One way to read Paul’s affirmation that “this is God’s...

Seth Godin is nothing if he is not one to push the boundaries. By nature or training or experience, he can’t help but challenge the conventional wisdom – about marketing, about leadership, and now about education. Earlier this year, Seth released a free ebook called Stop Stealing Dreams,...

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will result in my deliverance. It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be put to shame in any way, but that by my speaking with all boldness, Christ will be...
Praying to Understand Prayer

I think it’s easy for a lot of folks to get intimidated by prayer. We come to it thinking that there’s a certain way to pray, a right way to pray (and therefore wrong ways to pray as well). Do you know what I mean? Certain phrases and ways of speaking that make a good prayer. If you’re from a more formal religious background, that probably means a certain number of “thees” and “thous,” as in, “Oh Lord, we beseech thee that that thou wouldst grant thy servant…” and so forth. If you’re from a more informal tradition, on the other hand, then the word “just” pops up with some regularity: “We just pray to you, Lord,...

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will result in my deliverance. As we’ve touched on already and will see again and again, one of the significant questions Paul’s letter prompts is just how in the world...
