Last Bible Story Jams…At Least for a While

Two more Bible Story Jam videos. The first on Luke 10:25-37, and the second on Luke 13:1-9, 31-35. Actually, not just two more, but the two last…at least for a while. We’ve had great fun doing these Bible Story Jams – you can learn more about the original idea and how we went about making them at an earlier post – and we hope others were inspired to practice reading and talking about biblical stories. Our hope all along is that we take the Bible off the altar, so to speak, and put it in the hands of everyday Christians, and we’ve been encouraged by the response. But for now, each of us has some other work we need to get to. We...

BSJ: Transfiguration

Another great piece from our ongoing project, Bible Story Jam, this time on the Transfiguration as found in Luke 9:28-45, the reading many of us will hear in church this Sunday. What kind of mountaintop experiences have you had? What do you make of them? Can you relate them to what happens...

Bible Story Jam – The Youth Edition Jan30

Bible Story Jam – The Youth Edition

Two Bible Story Jams up this week. The first follows the Narrative Lectionary with a reading about Jesus healing the centurion’s slave (Luke 7:1-17) and uses some of the original folks from our first BSJ event in early December. The second is brought to you by some of the confirmation students at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They’re talking about a story we sometimes hear in Lent, of when Jesus heals a “sinful” woman while dining with a Pharisee (Luke 7:36-50). Listen as the kids imagine the reaction of Jesus and others as she bathes Jesus’ feet with tears and washes them with her hair. Okay, listen to the kids as...

Bible Story Jam: John in the Wilderness Jan04

Bible Story Jam: John in the Wilderness

A couple of weeks ago I shared our first experiment at inviting everyday Christians to talk about the Bible, trusting that as we all interact with Scripture by noticing details, asking questions, sharing insights and the rest, we’ll learn a lot – not just about the Bible, but also about ourselves, each other, and what God has in mind for us today. We called this little exercise the Bible Story Jam because, well, it seemed like a cool title. 🙂 Even more, though, we want to spread the idea that talking about the Bible with each other, exploring how these stories might shape our daily lives, can be, quite honestly, a lot of fun. So there...
