Gift-Giving Wisdom from Kid President

Ever wonder what to get that special someone for Christmas? Especially when that special someone doesn’t particularly need anything? In that case, let Kid President help you out.

I’m a huge fan of Kid President and have been enchanted with the story of his struggles, perseverance, and spirit. Today, given that we’re just a little more than 10 days from Christmas, I thought I’d offer you his words of wisdom on giving things that really matter – hugs, love, time, the chance to do something awesome, and the opportunity to make the world a better place.

It’s this last one that Kid President gives most of his time to, inviting you to consider making a gift at Inspired Gifts (UNICEF) to help children around the world. Other great sites where you can make similar gifts include the ELCA Good Gifts online catalogue, Lutheran World Relief Gifts, Heifer International, and Kiva, the micro lending bank that allows you to choose what persons you want to sponsor (and, when they pay you back, you get to loan again!).

You can make gifts in honor of family members, friends, pastors, teachers, whomever. One of my preaching students gave such a gift in honor of our preaching lab – which was wonderful. Several years ago, we started including these kinds of gifts in our gift-giving with our kids, and it’s often one of their favorite gifts. So there’s no better time to start shaping imagination about what brings true happiness than when our kids are young, whether that’s through Three Gifts and a Star for Christmas or just taking Kid President’s advice.

Wherever you may be on your gift-giving list, I hope you will be cheered and inspired by three minutes with Kid President. Blessed Advent!
